About The Artist
Deborah Kamy Hull is a painter who lives in Boston. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, at an early age she attended classes at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her BFA in painting and drawing is from the Kansas City Art Institute. She received her MFA from the Boston University, School of Fine Arts. She is the recipient of awards from organizations including the National Endowment for the Arts, The Artist Foundation of Massachusetts, and the Elizabeth T. Greenshields Memorial Foundation. She has been represented in solo shows and group exhibitions in numerous public spaces and galleries throughout the New England area.
From 1983 - 1990 she taught visual art to adults and children at Boston Architectural Center, DeCordova Museum School, Milton Academy, and The Children's Art Centre at United South End Settlements.In the late eighties she became fascinated with digital media. After attending Massachusetts College of Art for 2 years, Deborah Kamy Hull, a.k.a. D.K. Hull, became an Artist-in-Residence at Do While Studio (via Massachusetts Cultural Council and Polaroid Foundation Support Grants). Exposed to interactive media she developed "MotherMouth", a work in progress. After Do While, meeting writer Tracy Huston through MIMC (Massachusetts Interactive Media Council), D.K. Hull collaborated with her on various projects as an illustrator. When Ms. Huston's projects evolved into the company Bali Hai Entertainment, D.K. became one of the content developers. The collaboration from 1997 - 2000 with Ms. Huston focused on the development and production of "Makana" a series of story games found at www.balihighway.com which has since been deactivated and sold.
Currently D.K. is making paintings and drawings from landscape, family, and portraits in her South End studio. She is the mother of 3 young adults and married to Boston artist, Jeff Hull.
