Diamonds, is Random’s first subseries of singular shapes. Torn and jagged diamonds are juxtaposed and layered, overlapped and ghosted. The diamond as an object has many connotations. It is seen in decorative patterns. There is the harlequin, a comic character in commedia dell'arte, usually masked, dressed in multicolored, diamond-patterned tights. Historically the diamond is the gem of romance, engagement, and marriage with advertising slogans such as “Diamonds are forever” and songs like “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend”. Blood diamonds are the result of human suffering and corruption. A quadrilateral, I paint the diamond as a non-objective entity and sometimes acknowledge the shape’s literal nuances in the paintings’ titles.
